You Are a Psycho If You Think Donovan Mitchell Should Win the Rookie Of The Year over Ben Simmons

Ben Simmons is the 2017-2018 NBA Rookie Of The Year…hands down. The debate weather Dovovan Mitchell should win over Ben Simmons is ridiculous! Jazz twitter vs Sixers twitter has been an ongoing battle the whole year for the award. I am going to break this all down…get ready.

Rookie or not?

First, Ben Simmons IS a rookie. I do NOT want to hear the argument that he is not a rookie because he was drafted 2 years ago. According the NBA rules, in order to be a rookie you must not have played in a NBA game, boom, roasted. Jazz fans think its unfair but realistically, Ben and Donovan are actually the same age and if you want to go a little farther, Donovan has had one more year to polish his game than Simmons with Ben being sidelined all of last year with a broken foot.

Head to Head

If you would like to look at Ben vs Mitchell in head to head matchups, lets dive right into that.

November 7th. Sixers 104- Jazz 97 in Utah.

Ben Simmons:  16 points, 13 assists, 6 rebounds, 3 steals, 3 blocks but with 6 TO’s.

Donovan Mitchell: 8 points, 3 rebounds, 1 assist, 1 steal, 1 block.. 3-21 FG’s

November 20th: Sixers 107- Jazz 86 in Philly.

Ben Simmons: 27 points, 10 rebounds, 2 assists, 4 steals, 4 TO’s

Donovan Mitchell: 17 points, 4 rebounds, 5 assists… 6-17 FG’s

Yikes. Ben obviously dominated in the head to head matchup. Simmons averaged 21 points and 11 assists, while Mitchell shot 9-40!

Rudy Gobert and Joel Embiid each missed a game in the series. Therefor the argument that Simmons had Embiid to take the slack off and Mitchell had nothing is irrelevant.

Season stats

Simmons                   Mitchell

PPG:  16.0                    20.5

FG%:  54.7                  43.8

3P%:  0.00                  33.9

RBG:  8.1                    3.7

APG:  8.2                    3.7

BPG:  0.8                    0.4

SPG:  1.8                    1.5

Well, it’s obvious who wins that one. People might say well, the NBA game is a lot about 3 pointers nowadays and how well you can shoot the three. Well, caption obvious, congrats on having a set of eyes and noticing Ben Simmons does not shoot 3’s, nor does he attempt them. What does that matter? The whole entire NBA knows Ben Simmons cannot shoot 3’s, he doesn’t even have a 15 foot jumper. Knowing those facts, the NBA sags off of Ben Simmons, and you know what the incredible part is? He still picks every single goddamn team apart!!!!!! WITHOUT A JUMPSHOT! All of these great coaches in the NBA, they all let Simmons have that 15 footer, he doesn’t take it, it doesn’t even matter, they still get picked apart, these teams are in deep shit. All it does is let Ben into the lane with a chance to dunk on everyone, dish off for 3, or catch a cutter down the lane, its unstoppable. Just imagine Ben Simmons with an actual jumper (that will come). YIKES!

I am not saying Donovan Mitchell isn’t good…. i think he is very good and a boarderline all-star in the West in a year or 2, the kid is a special talent. But, Ben Simmons was honestly an NBA all-star this year, a leader on a top 5 team in the NBA, a perennial passer and a 6′ 10” point guard the NBA has never seen before and i think we are all in for a treat here in Philadelphia. QUE IT THE FUCK UP!!!!!!!!
